The Redneck Express (Austin)

If you've looked at the photo of our rabbit hutches, you'll see they stand on caged floors. That's okay and isn't bad for them. But we wanted to give them a break and have the chance to get onto the grass and relax their feet, as well as play together. So we decided to make a simple, lightweight rabbit run (like a chicken run, but not for chickens). Today we started and finished our latest project, and as you can probably guess from the photo below it didn't take too much time to get done.

We have named their playground the Redneck Express Rabbit Run, given that it...well...it looks pretty darn redneck. And we're cool with that.
It occurred to us that they had probably never actually spend much, if any, time on grass before. The first couple of moments for Fabio seemed to prove it. He was very confused and seemed afraid to move, but they all got to exploring soon enough. See?

When we bought these guys on Sunday, the lady who raised them said they had another month or so before they were ready to breed. But I don't think she told this to Fabio. In a not-so-shocking turn of events, he began chasing Jane and Georgia around and attempting to do what rabbits do. No, we did not take pictures.
We're not sure if he's just responding to new breeding instincts and isn't biologically ready to go, or if he just matured early, but I tried to check the does and it didn't seem like anything was actually exchanged. But I'm new at this so I could be wrong. Who knows, maybe we'll have some kits a little bit sooner than we thought! :D

  2. Just a thought but you could do chicken wire on the bottom of it and throw some wheels on it too. That way you can move them to another part of the yard once the grass is all gone from that area. Mows your lawn and keeps them entertained!
